With holiday party invites already in the mail, you’re probably thinking about outfits, hairdos and, of course, your glam beauty look. Holiday season means glitter and sparkles (yes, please). We have rounded up a glam regime taking into account face trends and the not-so-glam winter dry spell.

All About That Base

To avoid flakes on the face, make sure your skin is smooth and supple before applying makeup. The night before, I recommend using Philosophy Resurface Microdelivery Dual-Phase Peel ($89 CDN) which is an anti-fatigue mask. The next day I simply apply Rodial Dragon's Blood Hyaluronic Moisturiser ($62 CDN) and Vichy Aqualia Thermal Extrasensitive Moisturizer ($39.50 CDN).

Now the fun stuff.

The Brows

One of the great services provided by Benefit Cosmetics is the Bling Brow. If you've got a thing for bling, this is your calling. I recently used this service at the Benefit Brow Bar at Fairview Mall by esthetician Hanady. I must say it’s impressive and a perfect solution for the holidays. Bling Brow Bar gives you a choice of coloured Swarovski crystals applied on your brow or along your eye liner. Hanady really gave me a glamorous makeover for a sparkly night out on the town.

I also had my brows done with the Benefit Brow Zings Shaping Kit ($42 CDN) and Gimme Brow Voluminizing Fiber Gel ($30 CDN) with the Benefit High Brow in Pink Linen ($29 CDN).

Eyes for You

The eyes play an important role in your festive look. You can amp up the glam with just a little play on the eyes. First, set the base by applying an eye primer. I have found that the Benefit Air Patrol BB Cream Eyelid Primer ($29 CDN) keeps eye makeup intact for hours without any creases. You then apply a light matte shade followed by your sparkle of choice. You can either go for a smoky eye, metallic, sparkle or matte look. If you’re going for the girls-love-glitter look the Marc Jacobs Beauty Style Eye Con No 7 Plush Eyeshadow Palette ($71 CDN) is your weapon of choice. If you want a metallic finish you can opt for the Bobbi Brown Metallic Eye Shadow ($28 CDN).

Bollywood celebs are hug fans of glitter and smoky eyes. Sonam Kapoor loves shimmer on the eyes and plays around with it for a day look. Deepika Padukone also aced the smoky eyes look for a Diwali party.

If you have naturally long or medium lashes, use a mascara that will define your lashes adding volume and length, like Marcelle Xtension Plus Mascara ($15 CDN). If you aren’t proud of your fine lashes, fake lashes go a long way. I would recommend the Looks So Natural Lash Double by KISS.

For the Face

For a glam festive look, a dewy finish on the cheeks will do the trick. Start by applying Lise Watier Teint Lumière foundation ($39 CDN) which is an ultra-light and offers adjustable coverage. Then apply a shimmer-based powder like Mary Kay Sheer Dimensions Powder ($34 CDN). The translucent colour creates natural highlights with sheer luminosity.

Then I suggest creating the Bebo cheekbones look. Simply apply a light shimmer blush to the apples of the cheek like Smashbox Fusion Softlights ($36 CDN) which has five glimmering shades to add a soft glow to the cheeks. If you want to create a more illuminating look, add a highlighter above the cheekbones. I like the Nudestix Sculpting Pencil ($28 CDN) which acts as a contour and highlighter. It provides a fresh-faced look in warm tones with a matte finish.

For the Lips

Apply a neutral shade to keep it simple, a contrast from the shine and glitter on your eyes and cheeks. Try Shiseido Lacquer Rouge ($30 CDN), a liquid lipstick that provides intense colour and moisturizes lips that are dry or peeling. Then apply a coat of Fresh Sugar Shine Lip Treatment ($22 CDN) as a high-shine trick. Keep it in your purse and use it for retouching.
