#EnterIndia: Elie Saab’s Haute Couture Ode To India

Anokhi Buzz Anokhi DIY Entertainment & Gossip Feb 04, 2016

Check out this Victorian nod to the saree, salwar kameez, Nehru collars and lehenga-like gowns by Lebanese designer Elie Saab.

The Enter India collection was inspired by the journey of a 1900s English woman in India. The muse for this collection is Lilah Wingfield. This collection is about her journey in Delhi Durbar as a Anglo-Irish woman who draws inspiration from both worlds. The Lebanese designer says, “India is her backdrop and her inspiration for a new blend of formalism and ease, opulence and elementary lines.”

Many designers have taken inspirations from South Asian fashion, and Elie Saab is the latest to do so. The haute couture designer's Spring and Summer Collection 2016 features many Indian influences that are done beautifully.

This collection features elements from the Edwardian era mixed with details from Indian culture in the most delicate way. With Victorian silhouettes and saree-like sashes draped over the shoulder make the designs look like they've come out the closet of a modern Mughal queen.
